Two Lego Sets? No way!

February 14th, 2010

I think if I look back at all the gifts I’ve ever received, nothing can top what my mom got me for my 8th birthday. She had just come from Vienna. She goes there almost every year for work, and she always comes home with an assortment of clothes, chocolates and gifts for the rest of us. This time however, she came home and gave me two space legosets, one was a huge spaceship set, the other a spacedock with a monorail system. I would have been thrilled with just one, but to get two at the same time?

Star Wars, Dune and Lord of the Rings

February 11th, 2010

I like science fiction and fantasy movies. What fascinates me so much about Star Wars is the combination of environment (space), character (Luke, Princess Leia, etc.), and technology (the Death Star, X-Wing Fighters, the light sabre). It is kind of interesting that people younger than me do not like Star Wars. I also like Dune mostly for the story… but again it is the combination of environment (desert sand dunes), character (Paul Attreides) and technology (the sand worm, fremenstillsuits, energy shields) that whet my movie appetite. Last but not the least, who cannot like the sheer story, landscape and characters from Lord of the Rings, brilliantly rendered into a three-part movie.

College Football!

February 8th, 2010

Football – or soccer as it is called in the US – has always been a passion of mine. I love watching it. I love playing it. I love coaching it. The fantastic part is I get to enjoy this sport through all of middle school, high school, college, and even when I started working! The great thing about college football are the tournaments. I actually joined 3 different college teams during my five year stay and the annual inter-collegiate tournaments were always something to look forward to. Apart from the sheer joy of playing the game, came the prestige and the cheering of the crowds as you lift up that championship cup.

BMW 320i A/T

This car was my first BMW and gave me the best car driving experience I’ve ever had. I loved that it was a BMW – regarded as a status symbol by some – but I loved it more because of the drive, the confidence and the power it inspired in me. It was also my first 2.0L engine car, enough to get around and enough to get that little kick when you pressed the accelerator all the way. I loved how it had leather seats. But most of all, I loved how the girls loved it. I had to sell it when I moved countries but am definitely planning to buy one again.
